Himachal Pradesh promoting conservation and cultivation of medicinal plants:
The importance of medicinal plants is increasing day by day because people have now realized that there can be no better treatment than natural ones. Because nature has many such herbal medicines available in the form of plants which become very effective remedies for the treatment of every disease because naturally this medicinal plant does not have any side effects but it is very important to know this. It becomes clear which plant will be the treatment for which disease or problem. In recent times, the importance of medicinal plants has increased among the people, due to which the importance of medicinal plants is increasing in the international markets, due to which medicinal plants are becoming the main resources of indigenous medical system. AYUSH systems are reaching national and specialty. And at the same time its use and acceptance is dependent on the uninterrupted availability of medicinal plant raw materials as well as quality. Because every medicinal plant does not grow everywhere, it grows at its place and soil depending on the particular conditions and geographical location.
At present, the State Medicinal Plants Board is working under the aegis of the AYUSH Department in the state to promote medicinal plants and related activities in the state. Because it is being used in large quantities now because people are very happy with it and they are getting cured quickly because it does not have any side effects.

318 farmers received financial assistance of Rs 99.68 lakh for cultivation of medicinal plants.
In recent times, the government is also coming forward to promote the conservation of medicinal plants, that is why in the recent times, the Himachal government has given instructions to the farmers there to cultivate the plants for the conservation of medicinal plants and to increase their income. Many policies have been prepared for this and the farmers of Himachal Pradesh are getting the benefits of which, along with the conservation of medicinal plants, they cultivate them well and their income from this farming is also increasing day by day. .

Therefore, the following are some examples of the policies that the government has made for farmers to increase their income:
1) Under the National AYUSH Mission, the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Government of Himachal Pradesh is providing financial assistance to the farmers living there in different agro-climatic zones for cultivating medicinal plants, the benefits of which are being availed by the farmers there.
2) A group of farmers has been formed in Himachal Pradesh so that the benefits of financial assistance to those cultivating medicinal plants as a group can be availed as soon as possible.
3) Financial assistance for cultivating medicinal plants is mainly aimed at those farmers who have less than two hectares of land for cultivation.
4) Government of Himachal Pradesh must include at least three villages in the farmer group as it is mandatory for financial assistance to medicinal plants.
5) Himachal Government has brought such a policy for the farmers to enable the farmers there to use their land for cultivating medicinal plants, even if the land has been mortgaged, it can also be used.
6) Himachal Government has provided financial assistance of Rs 99.68 lakh to 318 farmers since the month of January 2018 to provide financial assistance to the farmers for medicinal plants.

In recent times, the Himachal government is helping the farmers there to cultivate medicinal plants. Their economic condition is improving, hence the government there is committed to improving the economic condition of the farmers, hence it is a very good policy of the government to help the farmers there. Their financial condition is becoming stronger day by day.
National AYUSH Mission has provided financial assistance of approximately Rs 1 2 8.94 lakh in 2019 to 2020 for the cultivation of medicinal plants in the state as the following financial assistance has been provided under this scheme which is as follows:
- Rs 25 lakh for an ideal nursery
- Rs 12.5 lakh for two small nurseries
- Rs 54.44 lakh for the cultivation of Atis, Kutki, Kuth, Shatavari, Stevia and Sarpagandha.
- Rs 20 lakh for construction of drawing set and warehouse.
- Rs 17 lakh for other expenses

Government established medicinal gardens in various districts
To promote the production of medicinal plants, the state government has established medicinal gardens in every district, especially in Joginder Nagar district of Mandi, Neri district of Hamirpur, Rohru of Shimla district and Jungle Jhalera of Bilaspur district because from here the farmers can get medicinal plants. Like an inspiration for the plants, this garden shows the way for them. People come here and after seeing these medicinal gardens, the awareness among the people about medicinal plants increases. In these medicinal gardens, the government has grown and is growing various types of medicinal plants which are being used to prepare various claims for many diseases and along with this, the government is also very active in creating awareness for the medicinal plants. Good steps are being taken which we are seeing in the form of parks.

Created awareness about medicinal plants under “Charak Vatika” plantation campaign.
Recently, the National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has established a Facilitation Center along with the Atria area in the Indian System of Medical Research Institute, Joginder Nagar, District Mandi, so that the farmers living there can get information about the medicinal plants. The government is using these institutions to ensure that assistance is provided to them as quickly as possible, whether it is financial, knowledge related or technical.
Neighboring states around Himachal Pradesh are also ready to cultivate medicinal plants and promote conservation of medicinal plants like Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh and people of Himachal Pradesh are ready in every way to promote and conserve medicinal plants. And for their use, they are cooperating in every way, this neighboring state is providing another avenue of progress for the medicinal plants.

To create awareness about medicinal plants among the people of the state, in the first phase, a two-week plantation campaign known as Charak Vatika has been launched in which Charak Vatikas have been established in 1167 Ayurvedic institutions and around 11526 Saplings have been planted 2021, the second phase of Chak Vatika campaign has been launched on 7 June. Farmers are benefiting a lot from this Charak Vatika because by joining it, people's awareness about the opportunities given by the plants is increasing and at the same time there are new people who are being informed about the medicinal plants.
640 species of medicinal plants are found in Himachal.
It is said that 640 species of medicinal plants are found in Himachal Pradesh because despite Himachal Pradesh being a state with diverse climatic presentations, Himachal Pradesh has four agro-climatic zones, yet 640 species of medicinal plants are found here. At present, highly useful medicinal plants are produced in some areas located at an altitude of more than 2,500 meters in the tribal districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Kangra and Shimla districts.
